does any one know why it is closed, and more importantly, when it will reopen?

Closed due to the continued flooding over the last 2 years. Park is leased out by the TPWD and from what I hear it is a pain in the a$$ to get the funding needed to clear out the debris, remove the silted areas and rebuild the MILES of bike trails. Expectations are to re-open next year, but that is going to depend on how much is will cost to make the repairs and approvals from Austin.

They had it cleared about 6-7 months ago, which I assume they were prepping for the 2016 season, then it flooded the parking lot again. If you know where the greenbelt is I'm sure your familiar with the parking spot on the south side of 380 and a bit west... If you really wanna be on the trinity and you have a decent cart its not a far walk. Never put the yak in there but used to fish it years ago when I didn't have a kayak or boat.

You can park in that small area on the southside of 380, but beware. Some reports of people throwing items at cars as they drove by. A few broken windows and dents in vehicles. Also, be VERY careful walking the banks along the river as the 2 years of high water has left a LOT of thick silt along the banks that is now covered by a little grass, mud or sand. This stuff is super soft. Went out here a few months ago and sank almost to my waist in the mud/silt. Had to use a kayak paddle to gain leverage and get out. Fishing is great, but like all fisherman, be aware of your surroundings, bring a buddy, and be smart.

Never had any problems parking there...but I did attempt to go fishing there once with a friend and heard about 30 rounds get shot off to close for comfort.... Decided to fish elsewhere.

Right now its almost not navagable. Going south there is a huge log jamb, looking north it looks like there is also a ton of log jambs. Id say at this time its not worth the trouble to go there. The entrance from 428 is open but again im not sure how far you can actually paddle.

the kayaking is only upstream from the 428 park as there is a huge tree across the river about 300 yds below the bridge. some tight areas to the north, but can get all the way to the dam with a little dragging.

428 is extremely muddy steep launch. Check it out before you pay your $8 or whatever it is.. Learned the hard way.

If it would ever dry up, the 428 launch is not that bad, but it needs to dry up. Went across the bridge on 380 last Sunday and the water was clear and really low. Went across Monday afternoon and the water was up and muddy. I didn't think they were releasing any more water from RR, but I guess I was wrong.

If you want to try a good fishing spot, you can launch your kayak from Shady Shores boat ramp on the lake. Paddle North from there to the mouth of the creek. I have had excellent luck here catching buffalo, catfish, whites and hybrids.
