Just a reminder here....flounder should be on the move soon. The limit per day is 5 now but another reminder here, as of Nov. 1st the Limit will be 2 and NO GIGGING at all for that month. I haven't dug into this yet, but I think last year this 30 day period was extended to Mid December.
Texas City will keep charging the $5 to get onto the Dike on weekends until Nov.1st, then will start charging the entrance fee again March 1st of 17. The far end of the Dike and on the South side, will start producing some flounder soon, if not already. Some folks use multiple rod setups at one time. If you plan to go join in on the fun, bring you some 2" PVC pipe about 4' long to jam into the granite rocks for rod holders. 7'-8' ML Rods are ok. I use 20# mainline w/ 30# fluro leader material about 18" long...Carolina Rigged...mud minnows or finger mullet are the best baits but can get expensive by the dozen. Try catching your own with a 5' cast net ($36). Work the tides. Get their before High Tide and work the water as it goes out. Their's about a +2 hour difference when it comes to Tide Charts (Ex: Galveston Channel High Tide at Noon, it will be high at 2pm at the Dike and a +4 hour difference at Eagle Pt. making that high at 4pm)
Watch for the ships moving...they can create big waves that are capable of reaching the top of the Granite Boulders. I've seen chairs and tackle boxes washed away. Be safe and Take a Kid Fishing.
