I know this gets talked about a lot, but I have a few more questions about building your own bunks.
- Where do you suggest buying the pressure treated pine at? The stuff I saw at Lowes looked like hell.
- What's everyone's preference on carpet? What's the best product for the lowest price?
- What type of glue are you all using on the top of the wood to glue the carpet to the wood? I have seen several conflicting suggestions and I'd like to know what you all have had good luck with.
Side note, has anyone ever sprayed the wood with a waterproof spray to keep it from rotting? Something like that Flex Seal they used to show "As Seen on TV". I was wondering if something like that could extend the life of the wood.
As always, thanks for your advise!

I have always just used PT from HD and plain IO carpet. I staple but do not glue. Boards last 10 years. Lags start to back at some point. I just swap out with next size up. When I replace at 10 years boards are still solid. I have used to build deer blinds with. Current bunks are over 10 years old and still solid. Carpet is a little worn.

What did you mean by lags and swap out with next size?

By the time you find and buy the wood and carpet and add your time putting itall together, Ultimate Bunk Boards begin to look pretty good. You'l never have to deal with bunks again.

Yeah, you almost had me convinced on the UBB. Haha.
My concern is all the flex. I know the aluminum braces will help but being that I have 6 bunks on my trailer, it's a big bill to pay for a boat I don't plan on keeping for more than two more years. I'm just going to see how inexpensive I can get the quality on wood without worrying about it lasting a lifetime.

They do have a lot of flex to them, even when installed as recommended and I was also worried about that. I went to my local metal place and had them cut some 2" aluminum channel to go between the trailer bunk supports. I countersunk and through-bolted them to the bottom of the boards the same way I mounted the boards. The aluminum channel was $2 a ft. The factory installed supports would have added $9 a ft to the price of the boards. $7 a ft was a significant savings and I'll never deal with bunks again. That said, I plan on keeping my rig for a long time and I launch and load 3-4 times a week by myself, so anything helps.
