Hey TFF,

I am heading down to Austin next spring for a trip with the wife and was thinking about getting out on Lake Austin for the day. First off, is the fishing there even worth spending on a guide? Any honest recommendations of who I think about hiring?

Any info would be great! Nick

I used Brian Parker when I went in March of 2015. I liked him personally but the fishing was awful. They had killed all the grass. I know there have been discussions on correcting the grass issue along with the carp issue but I am not sure it has been implemented or if it was just discussion. I really haven't heard any talk about Lake Austin so I would bet it probably is still pretty bad. There are several lakes near Lake Austin to go to. I would contact a guide and find out which he would choose closer to your trip date.

Charles Whited www.barefootfishingtours.com. There's not a better guide in central Texas.

Spare yourself from Austin, go to Ladybird/Townlake if you need to stay in town. Whited put one of his clients on a 13+ pounder (called a SAL here in Texas) a couple of years back there. If you can get away from downtown, LBJ may be the best lake in the area right now for numbers and size.
