Hey folks I'm in town for work for a couple weeks and want to know where I can get my kayak wet in search of some swamp donkeys and specs or really anything. Hit me.

Cedar Bayou and Anahuac come to mind, as well as that park on Burnet Bay by the Brownwood subdivision -- the name escapes me at the moment. Gou Hole Marina might be worth a look too.....

Read my previous post on Ft Anahuac. 30 minutes from the Super 8 off Thompson Rd and I-10 in Baytown. Specs and Reds galore. Follow the birds. Take a few gold Kastmasters with yellow tail feather. 1/2 or 3/8oz. Sharp knife for cleaning your limit.

I was scouting that area (Anahuac pocket, trinity mouth and flats north of it) about a month ago. Could not find a thing -- it was gar & carp heaven, hundreds of them, tailing everywhere. Water was 100% fresh. Spent half of day paddling around and went home skunked.

Not from the area brother, is Sea Rim a place or you just referring to outskirts of bay? Or you referring to sea rim state park south of beaumont?

We put in at the last little area on the W side, S from the boat ramp towards the end of the peninsula. Google Maps shows it clearly. We paddled across W towards the islands, worked the N side of the islands where the stumps and trees are lodged early (birds going crazy), then followed the birds N for a while before heading back S to work the rest of the day up close to the islands sight fishing reds in the shallows. We did catch a few trout in the river channel but mostly reds along the island's shoreline. The tourney guys and guides were hot for trout in the Anahuac Pocket as at least 10 boats were stacked in there. I heard several boats limited but most fish being caught were smaller sand trout with a few reds mixed in. As the weather cools and more bait moves from the river towards the bay, it just gets better. Need more cool fronts to really turn it on.

The salinity in Trinity has really improved over the last month. A month ago it was still pretty fresh. I wouldn't say it's optimal just yet, but it's getting a lot better.

Can you tell me where I might get them? Thanks.

Well I went out to anahuac. Didn't strike out but didn't fill the boat either. Still good all in all. Bad day fishing is better than a good day at work, every time! Got 2 reds, both 19" so had to toss em back (which sux bc in LA they'd have been fish tacos tonight!) Water was sskkiiinnihy! Very shallow, everywhere. Guess I caught the tide going out. Had the reds a little spooky. Good day tho. I'd like to see what it's like when the waters just a little higher. Thanks for all the input guys!

I buy them here in Plano at Academy, Cabelas, Bass Pro or online. Not cheap. 3/8 usually around $5 and change. Walmart even has them sometimes. Have not looked at Dicks. Amazon is most reliable source and you can find them on Ebay too. If I'm shopping brick and mortar, I'll sometimes buy them all off the hook as they can be hard to find. Hope that helps.
