Picudo Sportfishing Report
Sep 26 to Oct 3 2016
Its been a long time since we have had a Blue Marlin bite like the one we are experiencing now. We are going on our 8th day and the fleet is elated with the multiple bites and fish being caught. The hot area and main concentration of fish are up the Pacific side about 18 miles in the Migrio to Cerros del Golden area. The skipjack, small dorados, and other bait are concentrated from 1 - 4 miles off and the Blues are all over them. The fish are being hooked on live bait, lures, and sewed baits, they are not picky! With the sea temps holding in the mid 80,s and conditions perfect, the anglers are enjoying a rare fishing treat with some boats catching 3 -4 Blues per day!

The inshore fishing on the Pacific side has slowed a bit but the fleet is still catching good numbers of Dorado, although smaller in size. The skipjacks are in thick so if you ARE trolling the small stuff like hoochies or feathers they are all over them. We are moving out past 200 feet to get away from them as they are corroded all over the shallow water. They sure are the perfect size for Blues and it doesnt take long to fill the tubes! The wahoo are still around and being caught off Poso de Cota with chromers and marauders and some nice ones up to 50 lbs. have been brought in. The roosters are in tight by the lighthouse and trolling live bait in about 50 feet has been producing a few.

The striprd marlin are still here and being caught in fair numbers. The half day boats fishing close by are getting a few with some sailfish mixed in. They seem to be in the 3-7 mile range and being caught on lures and sewed bait ballyhoo. Its scattered from inside the 95 fathom spot all the way up towards the dunes.

Offshore fishing has also been productive with a few fat tuna being pulled off the Jaime and Golden gate banks. Although not as hot as last week they are still getting some cows. Its a waiting game but if you put in the time you have a good shot at a big one. The boys are mostly using the kites but slow trolling the skippies down deep is also producing a few nice ones. Some big dorados are also being caught outside and some smaller Tuna are being caught in the porpoise schools.

It is worth mentioning the wide open bite we are having up off the Mag Bay area. The boats coming down the line are reporting unbelievable stripe marlin fishing and up to 40 fish per day being released! Now that is fishing, mis amigos, as good as it gets. The wahoo are also in thick and a few nice Dorado to round it off. Cant beat it!!

Well the season is upon us, the boats are starting to roll in from the north. The tournaments are just around the corner and Cabo is going to light up!! It was a great September and its looking like we are going to have a fall to remember! With no weather systems in sight this bite will just continue. Looks like our conditions are back to normal and El Nio is a memory so fishing is going to be fantastic. Time to come on down and join us! Saludos from the Cape!
