Just wanted to say thanks to everyone at the THSBA. First tournament for the Houston division was Saturday at Lake Livingston and it was my first time as a boat captain. It was also our schools first tournament with an official fishing club. Weigh in was very fast and well organized and I really enjoyed it. All the kids were very excited and I'm really looking forward to the next tournament st Somerville. Hopefully I'll do a better job putting my two anglers on some bigger fish. My son caught four but all of them except one were about 13 inches and it was about as close to 14" as you could get.

This may be a dumb question but I didn't think anything under 14" was allowed to be weighed in. Can they weigh them in anyways to get some points? I know there's a penalty but someone told me to always weigh in any fish to get some credit.

You can not weigh-in any black bass under 14 inches. You will lose points if you do.

Don't show up to weigh in with short fish! You need to weigh in every LEGAL fish to accumulate points but the short fish will get you in trouble.

That's what I thought but had some parents that's have been doing it a while say if you don't have anything over 14" to turn in the undersize fish. You'll get a weight penalty but still get some points, better than zero. I had not heard this before so wanted to clarify.

If you bring in a largemouth under legal size, you lose the fish and get penalized 1.00 pound per tournament rules. You can weigh in any size Spotted bass, as per TP & W regulations.

If you bring in an illegal sized fish thinking you will only get penalized a few pounds and think that is ok, you are risking getting a citation by a Game Warden, which will result in a DQ. A DQ will result in zero points!!

Thanks, that what I thought and what makes sense but heard otherwise by a few parents from other teams. Appreciate the clarification, great job with the tournament.

My son weighed in one that measured 14" on my board but it was right at the 14" mark and knew it was extremely close. I read how to measure but did have concerns it was so close. I'm not disagreeing at any measurements at all, I just want to make sure we do things by the book and everyone on our team understands the rules correctly. Thanks.

Go to www.nameplate.com and order one of their boards if you want to as they are the official measuring boards for the THSBA, that way you know you are using the same board we are using at all of our tournaments. You can customize them any way you want.

Also, at every tournament we have a courtesy board before the bump tanks so if you have one close, you can double check it before handing the fish over. Once they are in the bump man's hands, it's too late to turn back!!

They will be on the website tomorrow. I was having a problem getting them to print correctly. Problem is now fixed so results will be out tomorrow when I can scan them and send them over to all the team advisors.

I captain for one of the schools that participated. As captains we measure all fish over 12" and track them for their club. Only legal fish are weighed. I will have to ask to confirm but I believe they track the fish for overall season awards.

C130 sorry I missed you, I was not feeling 100%, allergies kicked my rear!

As far as my kids, we had two for 4.11, lost another solid fish on a boat dock and one on a senko. Overall a good day with two first timers.

And yessir you guys do a great job with the weigh-in!!

You weren't in the blue and silver Phoenix were you? There was a beautiful blue and silver Phonix parked two boats down from us at the weigh in.

No but I know him! We actually weighed in first, had the lead for a while! I was fighting allergies bad and headed home early. As a fill-in captain I dump them on the parents and read about it later. I will see you around eventually, they already have hit me up for some down the road.
