Well, we got a late start messin' around at the shop and had to come in early... and the bite was vey slow... lol - but we did manage about 30. I also got to enjoy the Thermocline Crappie Mega Yacht! lol This boat and electronics are set up real nice if you're ready for a crappie instructional trip or just a catchin' trip on Fork. We had a few good ones. Most of our fish came on a new color that crappie really like, Copper Mine. We also caught a few on BES and also Lime Glo-Chartreuse (or something like that) It was a little slow for us yesterday. I guess cause of the bluebird day after cold front. They didn't really want to bite. So, after we would catch a couple, they would stop. Both of us would be reaching for a freshin' up of the Slab Slobber on our jigs - WHAM - we would catch a couple more. They didn't want to bite, but the "real shad" in that stuff works. Richard uses actual shad that he catches to make the oil. It's a great mix. You can kinda see the new Copper Mine color here. Works well with a plain or orange jig head too. For some reason, Todd always catches a ditch pickle, green carp trash fish... and today was no different. This was a freakin' beast at 7 pounds (on a digital scale). This big toad couldn't resist the Slab Slobber either. lol there were two guys fishing in the big Bass Cat tourney on Fork. They weren't too happy to see him pull that in on a crappie jig. Here's the Thermocline Crappie Mega-Yacht Book a trip if you want to see some really cool electronics and learn how to catch crappie. The new 360 imaging, down and side imaging and a stow & deploy iPilot. Pretty cool watching all that stuff in action and even better when Todd points at the fish on the graph and says, "They're right there". lol - "Drop down to 15" - BAM. I've been crappie fishing for 20+ years and I learned a few tips and tricks! It's always a good time to get to hang out with Todd and Belinda. Also, one other C-PSA (Crappie Public Service Announcement) This cleaning table works really well. They're usually close to a hundred bucks, but you can catch them on sale at BPS for Father's day, Black Friday and other sales. It comes with a lot of other cra-p like a faucet and a drain tube to a bucket, but we don't use any of that, just the table. It has grooves in it that hold your knives and is a good way to clean out the goop, so it doesn't fall off the table. Just push all the guts and stuff into that groove and you can pick them up easier. The sink is good for holding and washing off your fish (if needed). Also made some crappie cakes today. All that talk about them for the GTG made my mouth water. Dam they're good. Good luck out there!!

What kind of knife is that American Angler Pro with a Shark blade. Good knife! Yep! If you're going to clean more than 10 crappie, it's the only knife to get. Wait for them to go on sale too. Look on-line for package deals with 4-6 blades. I've tried all of 'em, but now I've given all my other knives away.

Electric fillet knife is the way to go. My grandpa was a real big crappie fisherman and when he passed I was lucky enough to get all his gear and he had a nice one I use quite a bit. The thing has to be about 15-20 years old. Nice fish TexExp but where is the recipe for those crappie cakes? I love crab cakes and if it is anything like those...

Yes, exactly like crab cakes... except better! lol Just substitute crappie instead of crab meat. It helps to have a Ninja or other food processor to prepare the crappie to mix in. I also started using Almond Meal instead of the Crab Cake mix, just to get a little healthier. It may be offset by the stick of melted butter that I add to the mix and use in the pan though! lol Sooooo gooood. One tip: The only way to stir the mix, crappie and seasonings is with your hands, so coat them with olive oil.

Here's a couple of other threads. I forgot about adding twice as much crappie as the box calls for. I don't measure anymore. Just throw it all in a bowl with seasonings (Slap Yo Mama), parsley flakes and melted butter. You can't hardly mess it up. Just brown them like you would frying. When they start to brown on the edges, flip 'em. They don't take long. Crappie cooks quick. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/11203143/Searchpage/1/Main/900672/Words/%22crappie+cakes%22/Search/true/crappie_cakes?#Post11203143 http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11181103/1
