I only have done it on floating docks because that's what's mostly at Bridgeport. So far whichever side is in the shade seems to be best. Best luck I've had is docks around 25' but most crappie I catch are just below the styrofoam. Maybe only 5' deep. Haven't caught anything deeper then maybe 10' down. They seem to hit jig right when it gets below styrofoam. Seems better bite too when you can land and let it fall right next to styrofoam.
