Tied up a bunch of my most productive shrimp fly. These are on a saltwater sz 4 mustad jig hook. Has a 3mm Pyrex rattle built in. I tied these with flounder in mind, but this pattern has caught trout, reds, drum, and croaker. The 3/16" tungsten bead gets it down pretty fast. Also do a lighter weight lead wire version or unweighted.

Did a couple of shrimp on a 1/0 mustad 60 degree hook. Sz 4 in the middle for comparison. Yard casted the new penny one and it casted okay with the 7-8wt CGR .Needs a pool test to see how it swims.

Not sure what I need such a big shrimp for? I usually fish 4's and 2's. I guess I have a couple of big shrimp in case I ever feel the need.

Thank you, sir! I'm getting where I enjoy tying them. I feel like I need a few heavy flies in the box when I get out on the bay or marsh. The 3/16" tungsten bead with 0X fluoro tippet lets them sink about a foot a second.

When I want to fish deeper structure, 2.5' 3, 4+ feet, with my floating line, this fly has been my first choice. It might be comparable depth wise to a heavier clouser.

It has a jigging action vs the more level swimming action of a clouser with the dumbbells 1/3 of the way down the hook shank.

A lot of Texas inshore saltwater patterns seem to focus mainly on redfish and mainly on sightcasting for reds up shallow. That's great. Hard to beat chasing reds in skinny water for an inshore fly fisherman. But there are places I fish that fall off to deeper water pretty quickly and I wanted a shrimp imitation that can work in those places. This fly hits that check box and is a good all around catch different species type of pattern like the clouser.

60 degree jig hook. 3/16" bead. 3mm Pyrex rattle tied in on top near jig bend. Rubber legs, then estaz, then eyes. Brush of EP fiber wrapped forward. Steve Farrar as a back. A drop of UV cure spread on the back.

I add micro glitter, make the eyes from glass beads, add some various flash before tying in the legs, but none of that is probably essential. The EP will need to be trimmed pretty close to avoid being too bushy
