Next weekend, my buddy and I are taking his boat and headed to Choke Canyon Lake on Friday evening and will be back Monday. Neither of us have ever fished there, or even seen the lake, but we do that is a very high producing lake as far as bass goes. Does anybody have any info on fishing the lake, recommendations on where to put in, navigation hazards, lures that work well, etc..?

Thanks!

Edit- Also possibly after catfish and crappie, but primarily bass.

It's not that good of a lake anymore, it used to be, so be prepared to possibly be skunked. Buy yourself some shrimp in case the bass fishing isn't going well.

As far as hazards, yeah there's plenty. Do you mind getting your boat scratched up or do you keep it pristine?

2 of these are not a factor right now but the third could be, I tell everybody that ask to put them into their graphs as danger signs. The gps point is not exact, but it's within 20'.

Choke canyon hazards

N 28 29.487 iron well head
W 98 20.755'

N 28 29.553'
W 98 20.124' (concrete tower, boat sinker!)

N 28 28.029' concrete chunks (approx area, Naylors Pond dam)
W 98 15.957'

Oh and the lake is down 20'ish feet.

its a strange lake for sure I'm not really a fan of it, i fished it a dozen times for gar without much luck.
allot of small catfish and carp in the lake as well as a high population of alligators, be careful on that lake i had a 11 footer come up feet from my hands when i was washing them off.
the lake also has some pretty serious swells depending on your boat prob not a big deal but if its windy there are 3-4 swells.

Friends boat is a Bluewave 19 Deluxe with a 115 Yamaha. We fish the Galveston bay system mostly but decided to try out a lake. I've grown up bass fishing, just never have been to Choke Canyon. Is there maybe any other lakes y'all would recommend?? Trying to stay under 300 miles (we're located in SE Houston.) Was thinking possibly Belton, Fayette, Toledo, Rayburn, COleto, etc..
