As I left my house in Garland there was little to no wind, felt like NE. Was hoping to get in a couple of hours early before the North wind blew in - no dice. Arrived at Whitney 6:30am, wind directly out of the North making whitecaps already. Looked around the islands and surrounding area for some top water action like we had a week ago - nothing. Worked the bank West of the island and caught some nice LMB on top waters. Tried another shallow area East of the island but only found one small school of small sandbass on top. At this point we figured we would be in for a long hard day. Cool front, strong North Wind and our previous trips we could not find any sb on structure.
I was wrong. Rob suggested we go up North by the bridge and try some spots he had way points on. First spot started catching sb, most were small but we weren't complaining. Through out the day we would go to a spot mark just a few fish, anchor, thump and catch fish for about 30-40 minutes then they would thin out and disappear. Move to another spot and repeat or go back to a previous spot and catch more. Most were small sb or striper with some good ones mixed in. Rob pulled a lot of doubles and a nice 20" striper. The bite was aggressive all on slabs and fly above. Size or color didn't seem to make a difference. Silver, white, chart all worked. Fish were hugging the bottom and hard to see on graph in 20-35 fow. So just because there is a North wind doesn't necessarily mean the fish won't bite.

Rob got big fish of the day AGAIN

Double

My foot and Rob has a wooden stick. Maybe 5 minutes at a time then rest and repeat. Slow rate and not very loud.

Saw a guide up on whitney beating the water with a rod a while back, just a couple of minutes maybe. they caught 4 limits of stripers on that spot in about 20 minutes after that. I was less than 50 yds away and caught none during that time even though we were marking fish.

Texoma guides have been beating the water with a rod long before any of us. Some texoma guides have a small trolling motor mounted so only part of the prop is in the water. You can even buy a special prop to churn the water. Seems to work best on striper if you are live shad fishing. Thumping seems to work best on sandbass especially in fall/winter.

Thumping works on striper, hybrid, sandbass and catfish.
We used my Bobo's Thumper on Texoma Friday and caught a bunch of striper. Granted they were not all huge fish but some were very nice 4 to 5 lbers.
I used it on PK recently and also caught 2 limits of striper, some sandbass and several catfish in 2.5 hrs.
I have caught thousands of striper, hybrid and sandbass in the winter thumping over the years.
There are some guides on Texoma now who own one of my thumpers. They use them regularly.
Splashing also works on all the above species.
A lot of guides also have splashers.
They are tools we use to catch more fish, just like trolling motors, gps, and sonars.
