Heading to Ray Roberts in the morning on the kayaks, how's the bite there haven't really fished it for crappie any tips would be appreciated thanks for the help!

It seems like the guides have been doing well with minnows in standing timber 15-30ft and brush piles. I am very curious to see how your question gets answered, I have been struggling with jigs and minnows in standing timber. Guess I fish the wrong trees . Caught a few on bridge columns the other day, nothing special.

Brush and timber in the 15-30ft depth should get you bit. Timber fishing really comes down to finding the right trees. Not every tree will have limbs in the right depth but one you do find some trees that do you can go straight to them and skip the ones that don't hold them. The fish should also really start suspending with the water cooling. I would make sure to start no deeper than 10 ft and work down.

If you can find brush piles from your kayak right now the bite is really good. 1/16th ounce pink jig heads tipped with minnows or a soft plastics in a shad color will get you bit. Start out fishing 6-8 ft deep to try and catch suspended fish. Then fish your way down to the brush until you find the fish. Haven't found a bad brush lately. They are all producing fish. Lots of fish pitching the jig out 15-20 ft and letting it fall on a tight line. When you feel the thump set the hook. Works best on 6-8 lb test line and a 7-8 ft ultra light rod. The timber bite is great on the right trees. Takes time to find those trees. You may get lucky if you look for trees in 17-22 ft of water with a lot going on under the surface. Most fish holding on trees between 6-12 ft down. Good luck.
