My wife wants to stay at a bed and breakfast on a lake for our 15th anniversary and I want to make sure it's a lake I can catch some crappie. I'm limited because I don't have a trolling motor on the pontoon yet so my best bet is standing timber. I tie up to standing timber 95% of the time on my home lake (Joe Pool). So my question is what lake would you recommend that has plenty of timber to fish and that my wife might like. We want to be within a few hours of DFW. Ive really been wanting to fish Cedar Creek but it doesn't look like it has much timber.

What do you guys think? Fork? Richland Chambers? Whitney? Somewhere else?

Go on ahead and go to Cedar Creek Lake tie off on the pillars on the very South Bridge the one closest to Malakoff. The bridge is extremely tall so you do not have to worry about anything getting the top of your pontoon that bridge is loaded with crappie

Skip the bed and breakfast and spend the money on a trolling motor. She will understand. I'm sure of it.

I wasn't very clear in my first post. She wants to fish also. I've been doing this for 15 years, I know what I can get away with.

Aquilla is doing nice right now and you have standing timber in a lot of the lake. You can find a B&B in Whitney, which is about 10 miles away.

I've been married 22 years. Here's my advice.

Forget fishing that day. Do whatever she wants to do and like it.

Fork definitely for timber but I'm not aware of a BnB. Wife and I have stayed at Pappy's Paradise on Texoma and would highly recommend it as a BnB near a lake. We also have a place we go to on Bridgeport but it's not as good for crappie but has a bridge to tie up to.

Forget the fishing. She sounds like a sweetheart and is agreeing with fishing but she would feel truly appreciated if you spent the day focusing on her. Do something that is special for her. You can fish most anytime.

Lantana lodge at Ray Roberts is supposed to be nice. Cody has wore me out all year on timber there! There's places at Fork too and plenty of timber!! Sounds like a good trip!!

You better focus on your wife ALL day. If she wants to go picked flowers then go pick flowers.

It's not your anniversary, it is her anniversary. Make the day all about her. If she says fishing, she is doing what you want because she loves you. Show her that you love her more. Encourage her to do something that she enjoys and do it with her. And enjoy it even if it hurts a little.

Lantana @ Ray Roberts is cozy, and has nice views of the lake. It's not the same as a B&B though. They have (double-check) horses and trails to ride if you're into that kind of thing and coves with timber are close as are brush piles with readily available gps coordinates, and you can anchor to fish. Many are quite large. Food at the restaurant is pretty good I'm told. My daughter was married there in 2010, and they catered it for us, and did a nice job. If you wanted to go to dinner elsewhere, there are places to eat within 45 minutes or less.

Around the corner is Isle DuBois state park with more hiking and biking trails if that is of interest.

I'd look around Fork too. I've stayed at a rental home over there before, much more pricey of course, but it was really nice and no shortage of timber there either.
