Where can you catch good numbers and size on fork? I was there Saturday day all over the lake and only caught one the whole day. We were in little caney, by the public ramp at 515 east, and at little mustang. We tried almost everything thing we could think of. Where do y'all go to catch fish?

Running helter skelter on any lake is not a good way to find and catch fish, especially on Fork. I know it's expensive but I recommend hiring a guide, one that has been on the lake for a number of years, and ask him to teach you how to find them and pattern them. Learn your electronics too. Fork can be a difficult lake to fish, that's why the guides charge so much but if you want to learn how to catch'em in all seasons that's what I recommend. Good luck and don't get discouraged.

Fork can be very tough to fish. I can't tell you how many trips I've made there and zeroed out. I am an impatient fisherman, which doesn't help. I also fish with old school stuff. I just don't buy into the newest most expensive baits (though I did splurge on a $13 whopper plopper this weekend- thanks RedSkeeter). They say Fork bass have seen it all so you have throw something new. Meh. I don't study fish patterns like many on here do. I just go and enjoy myself on the water. When I get bored, I burn some gas and get a change of scenery. Fishing isn't really my hobby, it's my escape. A "bad" day on the water beats a "good" day in most other places.

If you're serious, get a guide a coupe of times a year and let them teach you. They will, and you'll benefit. Something I need to do myself......some day.

Downsize to match the bait and cover a lot of water. ( With trolling motor lol)

Thanks guys, I've heard if you don't know fork and want to catch fish you need a guide because the lake is so big and difficult to fish of you don't know it. Ill look into a few guides.

You have to move around and find them. We caught 50+ on Saturday but like you I have some tough days out there, searching and just never find them only to hear that someone else caught a bunch of them.

Fall Fishing on Lake Fork:

Now that we have kicked the heat the fishing will definitely get much more enjoyable. The number of fish being caught is crazy right now and will hold until we get the first really cold snap this winter. October and November are one of my favorite times to fish due to the temperature and the amount of bites you get. Patterns that have been working and will continue to work this fall are as follows. We've been starting off with a buzzbait in white or a Spro popping frog in brown or green. Also a bait that is putting numbers in the boat is a weightless fluke in watermelon red or Mardi Gras color. If the wind gets up put a small split shot about ten inches up the line. For the bigger fish a 10 inch worm in plum or blue fleke has been the best bet. Most of the fish have been moving shallow and definitely will with the cooler days. Points, channel swings and road beds in the 8-18 foot range have been very good through out the day. Start shallow and move out just a little bit depending on the weather the day you are fishing. Hope this helps and if I can help in any way please give me a call.

You will be money ahead by hiring a good guide. With the lake at its current level if you don't know where you are going you will most likely wind up bending your prop or tearing up your lower unit or knocking your trolling motor off the front.. You will tear up less stuff and catch more fish with a guide.

Did you use it yet? I know you're ready to get on the water. I was goofing off on my dock throwing that crazy bait for just a little while and caught a 12" incher hanging around the boat ramp...
