Going to do an over night river trip Friday and camp on a sandbar...looks like it'll be beautiful weather with a low of 52 that night...Would y'all fool with a tent? How do y'all prefer to bed down...I'll be in my water mocassin perogue and could actually put a mat in it to sleep on...Any other advice is appreciated...Thanks

I would use a tent to keep the skeeters off. Are you launching from the Deadwood ramp?

we are putting in at hwy 79 and taking out out 2517 (deadwood)...I have a small tent I can take...was just wanting to cut as much weight as possible because there will be two guys in a canoe an two guys in kayaks...so I know I'll be slower than them... my perogue tracks fine and is easy to handle but I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up.

Did this trip before and I'd recommend a small tent. Plenty of places to set up.

yes by carthage...Im only on the river during the sand bass run...never been on it this time of year so can't say about the fishing...the river is very low and the water is really clean right now...I was wondering if those little red eyed bass would be in it? may take a pole.

Did that in 2012. Went from below the dam at Toledo Bend down about 45 miles. First 2/3 of the trip the water was clear and fishing was great. A large creek came in that was stained and after that the clear water was gone.

Its a great trip with lots of wildlife to see; eagles, hogs, deer, otters, etc...

This is going to be a dumb question, but do you leave one truck at the pick up, then drive back and drop off?

We found a local that met us at the dam and then left our truck at his place down the river. Was a little concerned about this, but it turned out fine and we paddled up to his place loaded up and were on our way.
