I'm just starting in bass fishing and I was wondering if anyone could turn me on to some nice reels/ rods. What's are some of the nicer brands? Thanks!

Thanks, VIPFishingJR

Shimano Caenan 150

Here's a great starter for you. This is a great entry level reel that won't break the bank but will last you a long time. It does everything a high dollar reel does.

Shimano's are my favorite reel brand.

Falcon Bucoo

A great rod to start with would be the the Falcon Bucoo. It's a very nice, lightweight rod that has good sensitivity and it will get the job done.

Check out the Lews reels. For the price, they are hard to beat. Very smooth, casts great, holds up very well. Falcon rods are good rods also.

Is there a specific Lew's reel you would recommend?

Thanks, VIPFishingJR

The Lew's American Hero combo is a good starting point I think.

Falcon Bucco's are on clearance at Academy currently. Lew's make great reels, but I would shy away from the Laser series because of the graphite frames. The LFS series has aluminum bodies. I would pay more just for that reason alone. Just my opinion!

Megabass Levante rods with Lews Team Pro reels make a great combo.

Also Diawa rods. Great rods for the money.

What kind of budget are you setting for rod and reel purchase? What are you going to use it for? (Spinnerbait, Jig, crankbait, worm, carolina rig?) If you are looking for something that is just a general purpose setup that will do a little of all of it, go with one of the tournament pro reels and a Falcon 6'8" medium to medium heavy rod.
