A buddy of mine and I are wanting to get away from the immediate Dallas area Saturday morning and do some kayak fishing. I live in Carrollton and am willing to drive an hour or so. I went to Clear Lake in the Grasslands 7-8 years ago but haven't been back since. I'm looking to find a small lake similar to that and hoping to catch some bass. I've checked past posts on the forum but wanted to know if anyone has been out to any of the small lakes near Decatur or anywhere else similar lately they would recommend. I looked into South Lake near Farmersville as well but it sounds like its mostly overpopulated with stunted bass. Thanks in advance!

There's a couple of nice fishing holes up there. They get pressure from locals.

Thanks for the reply. Definitely not trying to steal any favorite fishing spots from anyone. I went out on Lavon in the middle of the week last week. It was calm with glass water. Caught a ton of sandies. Fished some local ponds from the kayak as well lately, but just looking to change it up. It may be a little breezy Saturday morning so I would prefer a small lake/big pond away from the immediate Dallas area.

Looking for a small lake with limited fishing pressure? Try Lake Bryson. I don't think that there are a lot of hogs in it but it is a pretty lake and not too far to drive.

Appreciate it fellas! I'll look into some of these places and just pick one and go with it.

we have fished Clear lake a lot and it always produces fish. NOT big at all but always 4 to 5 small fish every trip. Black water is a hit and miss mostly miss. black water also has an over populated issue with leeches. last trip out there I spent hours cleaning my yak and gear. will not be going back there! Eagle Mountain is a fun lake to fish from a yak as well. Also lake Bridgeport! fun lake to fish as long as you get off it before locals fire up their boats.

Seems like the New side of Amon Carter would be good in a yak. I haven't taken mine out there yet, but have fished several times out of my bass boat. Seems like all the skiers and jet skies stay on the old side.

East Fork of the Trinity off of 428. Beautiful paddle, protects you from the wind and many varieties of fish to catch.

Leaning towards trying out Wheeler Branch. It sucks the park doesn't open any earlier, and from what I hear that is the only launch point.

I ended up at Clear Lake this morning and it was tough!! caught 4 fish all under 15 inches each, dodged dove hunters blasting birds from the bank, and even got to slap a snake off the bow of my yak. needless to say it was a productive morning! LOL!
