Hey All!

I recently went out bass fishing with a co-worker on his 25 ft Pontoon boat on Grapevine. We did really well! Caught about 10 bass total and our biggest was just about 3 pounds. Almost all on soft plastic TX and Carolina rigs and weightless soft plastic jerk baits. We fished a brush covered south-facing shoreline on the north end of the lake, and they were stacked up in there.

We're going back again this Saturday and I'm stoked! I think we'll do better this time knowing a little more about some of the patterns.

So I've never fished this lake before now ,is it just covered up in 12 to 14 inch bass or what? Any body have any good general tips or techniques to try for this lake, incase our spot from last time doesn't produce? Seems like there is a plethora of rocky deep drop offs to fish, and minimal timber and boat docs.

And I believe a kayaker told me he pulled out a 10 lb largemouth that day by the dam. And he managed to catch some smallmouths. Are there smallies in there? I've never caught one before, so if there are, I'm going to be lobbying to fish the dam with small plastics to try and catch one.

Thanks!

I've got a video of the 3 pounder that I can post when I get home.

Because of the recent flooding the last two years, the spawns have been phenomenal out there. Therefore there is a ton of small fish out there right now. Bigger baits will get you bigger bites out there. Big cranks, big worms and big jigs. Just be prepared for fewer bites. Look for transition areas at the mouth of creeks where bass will stage on their way to the backs of creeks for the Fall feeding frenzy.

Yes a kayaker did catch a 10 pounder out of there, 25 1/2 inches long and fat. The lake does have a lot of fish in the 12 to 14 inch range. Bigger fish can be caught on top water early at the dam or all day on cloudy days, squarebill or jerkbait on the tire walls, and surprisingly in the very back of the creeks flipping rocky banks and bushes.

The point out by rock ledge park normally holds some small mouth, caught some there on a drop shot robo worm, dragging it slowly off the edge. Sandies can have also been schooling up at the edge of that point. Can catch them pretty easy on a jigging spoon if you get right on top of em.

Don't forget a Yellow Magic first thing on flats with sparse cover leading into the backs of creeks.

Fished it this morning. First time in a year. No size, but fish where everywhere in the back coves. Had a great time.
