I just can't seem to make them walk the dog, I've heard people say trim the legs real short, but I was wondering could it just be my rod? Is it crucial to have a nice long rod with an extra fast tip? I can walk the dog with zara spooks no problem but the frogs give me hell

The rod doesn't seem to make much of a difference for me. Some frogs are easier to walk than others. The Spro is pretty easy. Its very similar to walking a spook but you use a much shorter and slightly harder twitch and be sure to throw a little slack in the line after each one.

+1. Try trimming the legs not quite half way off until you get it down. Bobby's perfect frogs walk real good without any trimming also. Short pops and let slack back.

Like above try smaller/shorter twitches. Try not to pull as you twitch. Most of the time you won't be getting dramatic walking action like with a spook type bait. You might try a Spro Poppin frog. It seems to be a little easier due to it's drag and not wanting to porpoise forward like a traditional frog.

I agrees with the braid suggestion. I find mono stretches a bit much for walking the frog so to speak

The key is to trim one leg noticeably shorter than the other to help the bait turn harder when attempting to walk the bait.

Try very short twitch movements of your rod tip. I notice when I am throwing a frog and it is not walking it is usually because my "rod tip twitches" are too long. Try that and see if it helps. I use longer twitches with a spook and that seems to work just fine for it but not the frog.

ok thanks I will try those suggestions and get more practice in, I am using a booyah pad crasher, as well as a lunkerhunt frog and I believe I do have a popping frog, I think it's spro, I trimmed the legs down even with the body,as for my rod it is a 7ft medium action gander mountain tourney series, kast king royale reel and 50lbs spyder wire braid

Hold your rod tip about 12" from the water.Make a c with your line coming from the water to your rod tip. This gives your just the right amount of slack. Sharply twitch the rod tip and return it to the position that makes the line into a c(the c will be backwards for right handed anglers). Focus on getting it to turn once or twice at first. Once you get the cadence and line tension right speeding up to walk the bait will be easy. Also a stiffer rod will help a lot. Popping that little bit of slack line is what gets it going,side to side. A medium action rod will absorb a lot of the pop out of it..forcing the frog to pull straight forward instead of darting to the side.

Can always go fish with Lance for the day... he has taught me a lot about frog fishing.

Try a M/H rod, at least a 3/8-1 as some are listed by lure weight. If the rod is listed by its power rating you need a 5 or 6 power depending on the Manufacturer.

I think that lunkerhunt frog would be hard to walk. I haven't tried one, but if it's the design I'm thinking of, it just seems like it wouldn't walk like the others mentioned.

yea, I honestly think lunker hunt lures catch more fisherman than actual fish, I haven't gotten a big medium heavy rod yet due to not rrally being able to find good spots for pitching and flipping, and it is hard to do from a sit in kayak haha
