https://youtu.be/vERyyeAU5SwGot some nice bass on a Zoom 12 inch worm in the California 420 color. My buddy also came out and took some video from his drone so that's pretty cool too.

Big worms catch big fish. Yeah they do. It's about the only thing I can get them to bite on right now. I want to get a punching rig set up soon.

Here is another rig that you might try. This will help you get that huge fish you have been looking for. Nothing will beat it. It works everywhere, shallow mat but best on the deepest grass you can find. They will be grouped up under the hollow. Rig a heavy drop shot rig: 5.0 heavy super line hook. Tied on 50# braid. Use a Palomar knot. Leave the tag end at 5 inches long. Tie a 1 oz. weight to the tag end. I just tie a knot in the end of the tag, then use a overhand slip knot to attach the weight. The hook is about 4 to 5 inches above the weight, so the tails of the bait will hang down and cover the weight. Use a Gene Lawrue Hoo Daddy Jr. in Watermelon Neon. This is not Watermelon/Red although they look almost the same; but it makes a great difference. It will drop in the grass and come out of the grass with no hang-ups. Fish vertical to slightly in front of the boat. Directly over the bait is best on the deepest grass. Drop it in slowly and soft so it is traveling slowly when it touches the bottom. The Bass hate anything sneaking in on them. Hold it there with a tight line for about 5 seconds without any movement. They don't want it bouncing up and down. This gives them time to swim through the hollow under the grass and nail the bait. Use the vertical presentation and moving along the outer edge of the grass line, making pitches out in front of the boat so by the time it gets to the bottom you are directly over the bait for the hook set. HAVE FUN!!

In 2003 Amistad was in it's hay day, so to speak. The grass was 30 ft. tall. We won the SIT on this drip shot and continued to win tournaments on it until the lake caught so much water all the grass fell. On one Fri. night tournament my partner and I had 30 bass over 5 lbs. in just 3.5 hours of fishing.
You will find that the little lake will have one or two sweet spots that will be holding the biggest fish. Just keep searching until you find those spots then work a circle on that spot until you wear them out.

Yeah I've kind of found two main points that they like to hang out at. I'll definitely try it this week!

Donald, have you tried any baits other than the Hoo Daddy Jr? Yes all of them over all these years. That is the ultimate bait. Watermelon/Neon.

When it is cloudy, the bite gets really tough under the grass. Then comes my spook for top water. They are out cruising around and my rig of choice is a 1/16 oz. short Crig. with the 10 inch worm after the top water bite.

Yeah I've definitely had good luck with both spooks and c-rigs on this little lake. I really need to get a depth finder so I actually know how deep I'm fishing. I'm just counting until the weight hits the bottom and guessing based off that.
