Adding some update... (I used to post on here, but mostly a reader/lurker/learner these days) JP was one of my favorite past time. This was one of the lake (beside Lavon) where I got hooked into crappie fishing 20+yrs ago and still an addict. For many years, JP has been known for its quantity, not quality. I have always hated that since I had access to the slips and live very close to it. As the past myth became a myth, and JP has consistently produced bigger fish, it will once again being part of my easy access near by lake to reckon with.
Beside the crazy recreational boaters on this lake, another draw back about JP is the launching fee. It is ridiculous compare to most lakes. Unless you have a State Park pass, it is $10 to dip a boat, well, unless you are the famous JE fishing out of a tube.. (great going by the way JE!!!)
Make the long story short, I finally made it to the promise water yesterday. Fished the south bridge, and it was easy picking. If it wasn't so crowded, I suspected that I could easily limit out with good quality keepers. Since I know the lake, I wondered off onto some deep timbers and bps. Most places I found were fully loaded. The dinks/keepers ratio is almost 1:1. At times the keepers ratio was actually better where I landed (7) 11"-12"ers in the row before throwing a skinny dink back.
Took a buddy with me, but he didn't feel too well while we were out there so we left them biting. Iced up one limit of the new JP special (11'-12" min.) I use to fish Joe Pool heavy when the lake first opened. We would launch out of Britton park and tie up under the bridge during the summer. We would fish all night during the summer and load up on the unders. We had so much fun. I stayed away from the lake for about 20 years and was totally lost when I tried to find Britton again. All the new construction over those years had me totally confused. It's been 3 years since I fished the lake and sounds like I need to make a return trip.

Your going to get a case of "Butt Scale" if you keep posing those fish in your tube . Looks like a great time was had. Nothing like slow, steady tube fishing to work over structure. Well done!!
Preserving Texas fishing heritage one lure at a time.
