Belinda told me last week that her Mom, Martha & Step Dad, Pat Pricer wanted to go catch some crappie.
Martha had only fished out of a boat 1 time before for catfish approx. 40+ yrs ago & although Pat had fished more out of a boat,
both had never crappie fished
I was kinda worried about taking them out, Martha can't swim and briefly considered getting some minnows
I quickly dismissed that thought, thinking if I can teach them to jig fish, I can teach anybody
They arrived Sunday evening and spent the night. Took me longer than expected to get everybody loaded up
We headed to Moma B's for a breakfast of biscuits & gravy around 8:30am
After filling our bellies, we put in at 515W.
After giving them some detailed instructions on how to fish a jig and the importance of being in the correct water depth,
it was just a minute or two before Pat had his rod bent and reeled up a nice keeper
I did have to have a brief conversation with Martha about how a spinning reel should be hanging down and not on the top of the rod
It was only a short while later that Martha was catching fish like a PRO!
Actually, they both were catching fish like they had been many times
We fished 4 spots, ended up with 63 by the time they were getting too hot and starting to glow cherry red!!!!
We decided to head in around 2:30
Here's a picture of a tree that the BFOD came off of
I set this Dr Pepper can beside the pail of filets
We ended the evening with a great meal of Crappie Tacos and sent the rest of the filets home with them
Before they left, Martha was giving strong hints that they'd like to do it again
Guess they're hooked to the
THUMP! We fished in 24-19 fow, fish were suspended 12-16' down.
Caught all fish on Mr. Fry's & 2" Tadpoles in Lime Glo-Treuse & Copper Mine on 1/16 & 1/24 jig heads with a #2 hook
