I remember reading in a post within the last 2 years that throwing deep diving cranks on braid was a bad idea. The poster said he ruined an expensive rod. I'm curious how, will braid cut into alloy guides? Any answers or opinions are appreciated in advance, thank you.

Ppl say that it will tear up the guides over time... i think it was a bad eye to start with.
One of my buddies has had the same rods for 10+ years and he throws only braid and none of the eyes have a mark... i use almost all braid and never had an issue

No it will not cut into guides. Whoever posted that is unaware of the capabilities and limitations of braided line.

I've never used braid on and of my cranking rods, I only use fluorocarbon, can someone please tell me the benefits of braid for cranking,, I just might try it if it's really a good deal.. Thanks for any info..

This may be a good spot to put my thoughts on the line subject: - Every line makes a different sound as it is cutting through the water. - Heavier line makes more sound. - Old braids use to be flat and you could hardly catch a fish on it except in heavy grass fishing vertical. - Most new braids are round now and make less sound coming through the water. - Braided line catches fewer fish on fast moving baits and Crig. applications because of the viber. and sound. - I don't see any advantage for braid on crankbaits except in heavy shore line cover or ripping traps through the grass. - Every brand of line whether it be floro., mono or braid makes a different sound depending on the outer coating. - The smaller the diameter the less vibration and sound. Most of the time this means light weight line. I am not going to do that. I fish 17 to 25 applications to assure getting that big fish in the boat. - Pitching and flipping heavy lines on a slack line presentation presents no problems with any of the heavy lines. Braid is just hard to deal with in the wind fishing heavy bushes. - I have stuck to Stren for all my line applications over the years and done very well; so I am guessing it is on the more subtle end of this spectrum.

I had a pro tell me using braid in open water was costing me bites. That was good enough for me. Back to your post though, I have never had braid damage any of my rods. I use flouro anywhere I think I can get away with it. Braid is a last resort for me except throwing a frog into pads and then that is all I use.

I caught a 40 pound Amberjack last week on a bass rod I was using to catch hard tails for bait. It was spooled with 30 PowerPro and I had drag all way cranked and was using my thumb for extra strength since I didn't care if fish broke off. Not a single mark on any eyes.

Maybe they hang up a lot while using those $25 crank baits? I personably only use braid when water is dirtier but never used it cranking. The newer braid these days seem to last longer and don't fray like they used to.
