Early Sunday morning 41 teams from across Central Texas invaded Lake Belton to compete in the Central Texas High School Tournament Trails 1st qualifying event of their 2016-2017 season. Temperatures in the upper 90’s, water temperatures in the mid 80’s, clear skies and calm winds would be a challenge for any angler, but these young anglers were out to proved that they we up to the challenge and it wasn’t long before they did just that. With the scales open, it was time to see which team had put together the winning pattern. Team after team of anglers in grades 6th through 12th came to the scales and when the last team had weighed their catch and the scales closed, the results were tallied. The Team of Kyle Learned of Team Tightlines and Joshua Gonzales of Ellison High School Fishing Team took a commanding lead and eventually the win with 4 fish totaling 15.00lbs helped by their kicker fish, a real nice 6.27lbs Largemouth caught by Joshua Gnozales. Taking second with an equally impressive bag of fish was the team of Braedon Metzqar and Brooks Barnett of Midway High School Fishing Team with a 5 fish limit totaling 13.62lbs. Followed closely by the Team from Troy ISD, Landen Bennett and Bryant Mitchell with a 5 fish limit totaling 13.47lbs which was good for 3rd place. Taking 4th place the team of Cameron Clouse and Clayton Green of Team Tightlines with a 5 fish limit totaling 12.78lbs. The 5th place honors went to the Team of Case Markham and Logan Duncan fishing for the Brownwood Lions Fishing Team with a 5 fish limit totaling 9.79lbs. A complete list of the results can be found on our website www.cthstt.com. We would like to thank everyone that participated and all the family members and friends that came to cheer on the favorite team. We would also to pass along a special thank you to the Boat Captains that gave of their time to take these teams out for a day on the water. It’s like we always say “We Can Not Do What We Do Without You”
Our second qualifying tournament of the season will be on Lake Waco on the 23rd of October. Hope to see everyone there.
