I am a bass angler 100% but have a chance to fish in a small friendly tourney out of rockport in October. There will be prizes for 1st/2nd/3rd in Trout, Slot redfish, oversized tagged redfish, black drum, and flounder. I have been researching the fish and techniques as well as locations (Checked out the stickies here but they are missing pics now). A buddy and I are on a team and will be launching the kayaks from Ransom park.

The plan is to hit steadman's flat (1mi paddle) for the redfish and trout focusing on the holes and cuts in the area. I plan on taking rods hooked up with a topwater spook, paddle tail swimbait, and shrimp.

I am new to all of this and just want to run it by you experienced salt guys to see if this is a fairly reasonable plan.

Thanks,
Wes

The fish will be there. And don't be afraid to ease across to B&R either.

Your plan sounds solid. I'd use white/chart, and pumpkinseed/chart to cover all water conditions on your paddle shad.

Strategy 1st - then tactics.

You are on the right path, just pay attention to the tide phase so you know what depths and structure to target.

Stedmans has always been one of my go to Spots
As Jim Ford said dont count out B&R also. Reds were stacked up in there earlier in the week

I filmed this last week, just a little north of your launch site. Fishing potholes in the grass flats. Shrimp might not last long, I used fresh cut bait.

Good luck!
