Anyone have personal knowledge or recommendations for 55+ retirement communities on good bass lakes in Texas, preferably in the north or east parts of the state? I'm looking forward 5-7 years and trying to pin down where I want to retire. I'd like to find a community on the water with decent amenities and a marina or at least boat slips for residents' use. A park model trailer makes a fine weekend getaway spot, but I don't think the lady of the house is going to settle for that as a full-time retirement home. A single family home on a waterfront lot is a possible option, but it would have to be in a gated subdivision.

I'll probably be checking in other states as well before we make a decision, but for now our kids and grandkids live here, so here is where the search begins. Thoughts?

Emerald Bay in Bullard on Lake Palestine. Close family friends live there and it is a great gated community off Saline Bay on the lake.
I do believe you have to join the Country Club to live in the community. If you like golf it is the best of both.

Sun City in Georgetown, TX has several small lakes/ponds on the property. They also have a large and active bass club that fishes Lake Georgetown tournaments regularly. I think it is less than a 10 minutes drive. Not exactly what you were asking for, but I thought I would throw it out there.

FlaNative, you might want to look into Rayburn Country also. I live there even though I'm not retired and it is mostly retired people. There is a marina but not necessarily just for the neighborhood. It has a nice golf course also. You can be on the water of 2 of the best lakes in the country (Rayburn and Toledo) in 20 minutes or so.

Cypress Springs has several gated communities on it and is one beautiful lake. You just won't want to fish it from Memorial Day to Labor Day especially on the weekends. The good news is you are 10 minutes from Monticello and Bob Sandlin and 45 minutes from Fork. That's doesn't even take into account the other lakes within about a 1 hours drive like: Lake of the Pines, Winnsboro, Tawakoni, Cooper, etc.

There are a lot of communities on private lakes in East Texas. They lake/ponds may only be 20 to 200 acres. I used to fish on in Mineola. Bunch of old dudes lived on the private lake, no one fished it.

They would wait for a boat to get on plane so they would have something to grip about......

Wow... thanks for the input! There are several options there worth exploring, and test fishing, over the next few years!
