Well, first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one.

Come by the shop. I have a table loaded with prepackaged custom cranks. Pick one, any one and it's yours. Thanks!

Pick a 1.5 all the others are for making adjustments off the 1.5.

Definitely get a 1.5. Either a shad color or chart/black back for off color water. They are fun to throw. Don't be scared to get right in the cover. You will learn to walk the bait over limbs and stuff. Once you do you will know when the bite will happen.

Strike King KVD HC Square Bill

About 95% of the time I use this bait right here. I'd be willing to bet good money that this is the #1 used square bill on the market. Simply because it's priced right and it works. They make several different sizes and plenty of colors but I mostly use a shad color in the 1.5 size.

6th Sense Crush 50X

If I'm not using a KVD square bill, then I'm using a Crush 50X. These are rattling cranks with a truly custom paint job.

Most square bills dive around 3-4ft, so don't expect them to dive much deeper. A shad colored 1.5 square bill will get the job done in most situations and help you build confidence quickly.

I fished for 14 years before I started catching fish on crankbaits. I would throw one every once in a while, and I'd either hang it up and break it off or just get bored with it and give up.

Now, I'm addicted to throwing deep cranks and I've won two club tournaments this year with them.

Start with a squarebill, then get a strike king series 3 and a series 4. You'll get the hang of crawling them through cover as mentioned above. Deflection is key. I finally started catching with cranks when I realized I didn't care if they got hung up and I started banging them through trees and brush.

Then when you've got the hang of the shallow and mid-depth cranks, get a 5xd and a 6xd. Then you'll have pretty much the whole water column covered. The 8xd and 10xd are my favorites now, but it took some time to get used to them.

I love squarebill fishing, and I have caught many fish doing it, but I can't for the life of me get a bite on a 6th sense squarebill. It's beyond weird.

I like baby bass or chartreuse and black. I switch up between a 1.5 and a 2.5. Most will tell you the depth that they well run. Start with a 1.5 for really shallow then play with another size from there. Super easy to use and they catch fish.

Stop by Academy Sports and Outdoors (or go online) and pick up some of the following in a shad color, a blue gill color, chartreuse, and a red crawfish color:

H20 Express Premium Shallow Running Jointed Square Bills 3/8oz usually $5.99, but often on sale for less

H20 Express CRSNR Silent Crankbait sq bills usually $3.99

These are some cheaper options to get some square bills that offer something a little different than what most throw.

have caught more fish on this color than anything else i throw. Year around and on any lake I go to. It has a 1 knocker rattle and a bunch of flash, I have had luck with it in muddy water and even boated 15 fish in a night tournament on it last month.
