Everything I was going to say has been said. If you simply fish with some woolly buggers (olive, black, white), clousers and deceivers (chartreuse/white, olive/white), and foam hoppers, you can catch a ton of different species.

Great info guys thanks!!!!! Where can I purchase some of the crack patterns? I have tried tying flies a few times. they were mistaken for a kindergarten art project.

Does FTU sell them? Seems like it was Andy Packmore that came up with the pattern and I think he works there. I could potentially sell you some of my version with the Eyelash yarn. You don't see redfish crack so much in the bigger fly retailers. Maybe it's more of a local Texas type fly?

Did some more thinking and I would like to add the muddler minnow to my list of go-to flies. I catch a lot of pond bass on them because they fish really high in the water column; they float for a while and then eventually get water logged and suspend under the surface on a stripped retrieve. They also make conehead varieties that sink right off the bat and marabou and zonker versions that look a lot sexier, but I find I have my best luck with the run-of-the-mill natural colored varieties.
