Decided to hit the upper Guadalupe this afternoon on the way back in to New Braunfels from Fredericksburg. Stopped at the put-in on FM 311 for the Nichols Landing Paddling Trail.
Lots of bank access on the south side of the river. Walked about a half mile east of the bridge and hooked a 4" Guadalupe bass and a couple of even smaller sunfish on a small black Roostertail. Decided that the big ones were probably hanging out on the west side of the bridge, so I headed that way.
Walked back to the bridge and fished the next half mile of river using a gold body/silver bladed #1 Mepps Aglia and caught another Guadalupe bass, this one no more than an inch and a half long! Also caught a couple of longears that were half dollar size, at best.
At this point it was time to head home. Worked the same stretch of river on my way back to the bridge and caught what was to be the "whopper" of the day, this cute little fella:
This was probably the hottest part of the day, between 1:45 and 3:45, but I had fun and caught some fish.
