Decided to hit the upper Guadalupe this afternoon on the way back in to New Braunfels from Fredericksburg. Stopped at the put-in on FM 311 for the Nichols Landing Paddling Trail.

Lots of bank access on the south side of the river. Walked about a half mile east of the bridge and hooked a 4" Guadalupe bass and a couple of even smaller sunfish on a small black Roostertail. Decided that the big ones were probably hanging out on the west side of the bridge, so I headed that way.

Walked back to the bridge and fished the next half mile of river using a gold body/silver bladed #1 Mepps Aglia and caught another Guadalupe bass, this one no more than an inch and a half long! Also caught a couple of longears that were half dollar size, at best.

At this point it was time to head home. Worked the same stretch of river on my way back to the bridge and caught what was to be the "whopper" of the day, this cute little fella:

This was probably the hottest part of the day, between 1:45 and 3:45, but I had fun and caught some fish.

Thanks Banker! First time there so I didn't have anything to compare the flows to, and didn't think to check the Coast Guard site for CFS, but from personal experience it seemed like the lower Guadalupe just below the dam when the flows are about 250-300 CFS. Definitely wadable.

The Guadalupe has had a strong current south of the Canyon Dam for the last two years. nuts It has really changed the patterns of the fish. hmmm Still catching some good ones but having to really work hard for them on that river these past couple of years. thumb
