My buddy's dad passed away and we made the 10 hour drive to the pan handle to pay our respects. The service was 15 min from lake meradith so we made the most of a sad situation. Me and my 8 year old son worked the floating pier and walked some of the shore line. The whole lake looks to be in a valley so wade fishing was a no go due to the steep drop off. We landed over 20 perch hand sized and down. Then my boy talked me into a drive to New Mexico. Lake ute was the closet body of water we could make in a weekend trip. This beautiful rocky lake allowed some wade fishing and sight casting. Once again it was big perch with a little Lm bass thrown in. On the ride home we crossed the bosque river and I hit the breaks. It was a little climb down to it but once again we tore up the perch. We also caught some tiny catfish and my first sucker fish.
All said and done it was over 1,400 miles in 2 1/2 days and some priceless quality "adventure and exploration" time spent with my youngest son. It may have been an epic perch catching trip but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
