Got up this morning to a light drizzle and decided to go hit some trees in the Caddo arm. Got to the boat ramp with no issues and that's where things started to go south. After I got boat prepped was looking for the docking line and couldn't find it. No matter had another one in the back of the truck so pulled it out and tied it to boat.

Eased down the ramp till the boat was in the water and jump out and tied the rope to dock and unhooked the front of the boat. So far so good I was thinking. Eased the boat down into the water till it floated off and started to pull up the ramp. Looked in rear view mirror just as rope snapped and thought this is not gong to end well.

Saving the day mode kicked in as I threw the truck into park and bailed out. Boat was floating pretty straight with dock but pulling away as I sprinted down the dock. Doing my best Carl Lewis Olympic immatation decided to go for it and put on a might burst of speed and went airborne towards the front of the boat.

This is just about the time that things went from bad to really bad. As I was flying through the air was thinking I got this, but as I started my decent began to realize I was going to come up short.

Splat!!! Hit the water about a foot short of the boat and went under loosing cap and sunglasses. Came up and grabbed boat but could not touch bottom so swung around to back of boat and grabbed ahold of power pole. By now boat had drifted about 20 yards from ramp so thinking I still got this started to paddle towards ramp with 8500 pound skeeter in tow. Seems like it took about 2 hours to cover that 20 yards but being the exceptional athlete that I am made it safely back to ramp.

Took every thing out of pockets phone included put it in the floorboard of truck and took off seeking the elusive crappie. Found a few in 12-14 foot of water and gave them to a guy fishing from the bank as I was leaving.

The good of all that happened today was it didn't happen say 3 months from now in 40 degree water but that was the only good.

Guess sometimes it better not to jump.

Haha, I dread that every time I launch. I check about every 5 seconds after I tie it off.

Glad you are ok.

You could have hit the water and had your muscles tense up and you would have become a brick and possibly not resurface at all. Looks like it could have been much worse.

That's why I also tie off with two separate lines. Maybe overkill but it doesn't take me about 30 seconds and then I have a secondary safety line.

you gotta give drift aways abt a 2 foot lead before u jump. thumb

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

It sounds funny but you placed yourself in real danger there. Glad it worked out for you.
