Fished the Perdernales River this past week and the bite was GOOD! Caught a bunch of fat Bluegill in the 7" range and several bass in the one pound range. Had about a four pound bass spit a hook on me after a brief fight. Rounding out the catch were a few Longear. Most of the fish were released but a few were kept for the dinner table. Fish were caught in 3 to 5 feet of water using worms and Gulp Alive Night Crawlers. Bottom and float techniques were used. After a day on the Perdernales River I had a great dinner and the Hill Country Cupboard in Johnson City! A great day fishing and dinner at the Hill Country Cupboard. It just don't get any better! fish

Good looking fish, Banker. Were you standing or floating this trip?

Same here. Lately I've been getting the itch to buy a canoe. They seem to have fallen out of favor in the last several years, with everyone switching to kayaks, but I love the utility of a canoe. Great for the occasional camping trip, and even for a short outing you still have all that room to take extra gear and/or a fishing buddy.

I've hit Cypress Bend Park, where I've caught just about everything, Landa Park (no luck), Hinman Island Park (Bass and Sunfish), and the tailrace waters just below canyon Lake Dam. I'm sure I'm missing quite a few good spots.

Okay, Banker! Found myself near the Blanco and the Pedernales rivers today and couldn't resist. First cast in the Blanco yielded a Guadalupe bass that looked to be just under keeper size. Fished it for another half hour and got a nice sized red breast sunfish. Drove off thinking, "Man, I really should have taken a picture."

Then it was off to do a little work in Fredericksburg before heading to Johnson City and the Pedernales. Caught a few small sunfish and lost a decent sized bass before remembering that I needed to snap a few photos.

Lucky for me, the fish were still biting.

This little guy hit the lure about a foot from the bank:

This one was about three feet out:

And this bass nailed the Rooster Tail as soon as the lure hit the water:

Man, I'm happy that most of the tubers have gone back home!

Yep! First time there. The lake area didn't look too promising for bank access, as there was a lot of growth on the shoreline. I hiked a trail that led below the spillway and fished the bank. Not sure if that was also part of the nature park or private land, but either way I was respectful as always, and was only doing catch and release.

By the time I'd fished for an hour or so the hike back up to the parking area reminded me of just how out of shape I am! I've got a few months left to get my "river legs" back before trout season starts.
