Hey guys,
Looking for my first 18foot boat,
I've found a 2015 nitro z7 duel console with 150 mercury pro xs for $21,000
and a 2012 Skeeter tzx190 duel console with 150 yamaha HPDI for $21,500,
Both motors less then 100hrs and both have basic electronics, which boat would you lean towards?

Boat wise its pretty much a wash. Engine wise, Yamaha hands down. The 2.6L HPDI is one of the most reliable motors out there.
The 2012 TZX originally did not come with a jack plate. You will want a 6" on there to keep the motor off the cables when titled all the way up.
The Skeeter can fit 8' rods in either rod locker.

In 2012 I crawled all over the Nitro Z7, Skeeter TZX190 and ZX190, a Ranger 118 and a Triton 18XS.
My order of choice:
Skeeter ZX190 - bought this one of course
Ranger 118
Skeeter TZX190
Nitro Z7
Triton 18XS

This was a feature for feature comparison, max HP (for this model year only the Skeeters offered 175HP), price, storage, dealer proximity.
With a 150 the Nitro maybe 2 MPH faster. For this model year the Skeeters were much better quality. Equally decked out the Skeeter TZX190 was actually cheaper than the Nitro. The ZX190 was about the same price as the Nitro.

For what my option is worth I'd go with the Skeeter but I don't think either sounds like a bad deal.

I might base it on maintenance, were the Skeeter is older and if it wasn't maintained well that could be deal breaker and the Z7 is younger so poor or lack of maintenance wouldn't be as big deal.

Thanks for the reply, i no the tzx is the budget model of the zx but the price seems pretty good, just out of curiosity why was the triton 18xs so far down the list?

Thanks for the reply, yeh the merc is a newer motor and i havnt had anything to do with the hpdi before, also i believe the z7 passenger console is removable which i like the idea of if it is.

If both are in excellent condition, the Nitro is the better deal for the price. A 2015 with removable console ready to fish is normally more money than that. I won't mention which boat I own....get the one you like the best and you will be happy. Everyone will tell you to buy what they own. And by the way, the Nitro is actually closer to 19'(18'-8").

I would have to go with the Nitro. It still has at least 1, maybe 3 years of warranty on the engine. The skeeter probably has none left. The newer Merc's get great gas mileage compared to the older HPDI Yamaha's. your looking at needing to change tires on the Skeeter soon also. And you save $500 up front.

Like Skeeter and Ranger, Triton had two different price point boats. This was the lower end package. To me they cut too much out of it with far fewer creature comforts and it was a 150.

I misread your original post. I thought both were 2012s. At that price the Nitro looks to be a better deal. I believe the 2015 Z7s are rated at 175hp, just means that the transom maybe stronger on the 2015.

I am probably wrong, but I thought the first years of the Z7 were rated to 200hp.

If the 18xs was the budget model what was the higher class model?
