I got out on the lake yesterday from 10:30 to 2:30 and checked out a few spots. East Dam Hump, Dam ridge West of the Pole, Greenhouse Ridge and A-frame Point produced one white and a catfish. Finished up at Key Ranch Drop-off and caught 44 more - mostly whites but also a 19 inch hybrid. What was happening there was several schools of whites along the drop-off were moving slowly along the bottom in 13 to 16 fow from north to south. I would set up on them, catch 5 or 6 and then have to move up and set up again. That kept on til I had to leave to meet an appointment. I was throwing a #2 Mepps with 3/16 mash-on weight about 16 inches up my 10 lb fluorocarbon line. I think it significant that I was casting toward the sun, so fish could attack my lure with sun at their backs. I usually try to position so I cast toward the sun when fish are in shallower (10 to 16 fow) water.

Interesting fact about the sun and casting toward it. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge that you constantly share with us greenhorns.

Where was the sun between 10:30 and 2:30, I am assuming that you caught them more toward 2:30, so you were casting toward the west?

It was more south or south-southwest. Casting with sun coming from side is ok too - but casting with sun at my back does the worst most of the time.
