Has it been fishing better this year? Is it still a crank bait lake or has the shallower bite come back (have a kid down there again and was planning on pulling the boat down a couple of times)

I went to fire school in college station and did the TEEX fire academy there. I was down there for 2 years and found my best lake was Fayette. its about an hour and a half drive max to the lake from CS but totally worth it. I live around Dallas but wish I lived closer because that's one of my favorite lakes now. its easy to go there and catch 50+ bass. it has a big slot so there are tons of nice fish to catch. I cant remember ever having a bad trip out there in the 15 times ive been.

Summer vistors to Coll.Sta may want to skip Gibbons as the heat unconditioned fish pften bite poorly in hot months. Perhaps worse last few years as the coal power plant idles now most of year or operates at reduced capacity and then in summer the water temps spike in the small shallow reservoir as the plant then runs almost constantly.

Fayette seems to be less summer affected but still becomes hit/miss until nite air temps get below 60's or even 50's.

Until then, DixieChicken's beer tastes the coldest all year.
