I keep seeing people talking about drift fishing. I know nothing about this technique, but it sounds like something I should be doing. Do you just rig a bunch of poles around the boat, fishing on bottom (or above the thermocline) with cut bait or shad, and slowly drift across the lake? How fast are you drifting? I assume there is a sweet spot in terms of how fast you are floating across the lake. Thanks in advance for any answers

Most of the time you want to stay around .5 mph. I prefer a santee rig for drifting. Sometimes I will drop vertical lines at the thermocline but usually cast them as far as I can then let some more line out. Ledges, points and flats. Use drift socks to slow ya down and keep the boat sideways

If you cast one far , next short, the next far, the next short you may not get tangled as easy.

Watch out for the little ones. One can bite and tangle up all your lines with out you even noticing.

If you don't have two drift socks, you can use two 5 gal buckets.
He is truly a sick individual.

i run two 60" drift socks out the back of my boat, 21' CC and drift at .7 mph. I also use counter reels and run my farthest pole at 350, 300, 250, and 225. You're gonna have a tangle eventually regardless. I run santee cooper rigs with varies leader depending on water temp

I will second that on tangles. Never seen a fish that can tangle lines as quick as a cat swimming toward the boat. Don't know how they do it but they can knot your lines together hook to hook and be gone without you even knowing they were there. Truly amazing.

Might look up Christian Myrick on Facebook. One of the best kayak catters around.

If money is not an issue Hire a local guide and bring your I-phone take some photos and shoot some video...you can learn it pretty quick that way..
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

I would also love to get into drifting for cats. All I need to get started is a boat and a truck to pull it. lol
