If you decide to fish in the Lake Charles area, DO NOT get gas on the water from Global Marina in Bayou d'Inde located just south of Hwy 210. It's full of water!!

I ran from Orange all the way over there and fished around all day. Before coming back I decided to get 20 gallons ($63) to be on the safe side. 10 minutes after fueling up my motor started sputtering and died.

I had to call a cab to come get me and take me to my truck in Orange ($93!) and then pay to have the fuel removed and the system flushed ($503). So all total this costs me $659!!

I called the marina yesterday to see if they'd reimburse me or at least pay some of the bill. He refused to acknowledge that they have water in their gas. He tried to say I got the bad gas somewhere else. I explained that if that were the case I'd have never even made it to the intracoastal waterway coming out of Orange...let alone all the way to Lake Charles. I even called him immediately after it happened to notify him of what was going on, just in case it came to this. He still refused...

So just have a plan for re-fueling if you plan on going that direction and it better not be at Global Marine. (FYI I believe there are other places, that was just the one that was closest to me at the time)

I think they can easily test their gas for water.

They can and yesterday he claims that their gas was tested as recently as Wednesday of this week and that it has no water. When I called him the day it happed, he also claimed it had no water then. Either the test equipment they're using isn't calibrated or the person performing the tests doesn't know what they're doing because the simple fact is this, at the point I pulled up to his pump, I had run almost 30 gallons of fuel that day without so much as a hiccup. Ten minutes after idleing up Bayou D'Inde with his gas, my motor was shot. I drove home the next morning and took it straight to the shop and they discovered it was full of water.

Good luck! We got a tankful of gas and water mix back in March and filed a claim (with a major fuel company). It took three months and a lot of phone calls but we finally got a check from them. Keep at'em!

There is a paste we use to put on a wood stake and check diesel tanks for water. Maybe an auto store has it and you could pump some fuel in a small tank and have your instant proof. Probably to far to check but just in case, thought I would mention it

the paste is called color cut. it will change colors if it detects water in the fuel.

I know they aren't attractive buy you can buy a water separator filter that goes in your fuel line hose, between the fuel tank and motor. Most boats that sit in the water year round have these installed.

Global Marine services most tugs and other large DIESEL driven boats. No telling how long their gasoline has been in their tank

Any recommendations for fuel in Lake Charles. Going to fish the Champs tourney myself, but have never been to Lake Charles.

Well I won't likely be back until the week of the tournament and by that time it's likely that they'll have replaced it by that time. They also posted a picture on their FB page of the recent test that was done but there an inch or so missing from the left side of the page. So I'm not sure if they're trying to hide something or if it really did pass...if it did pass it's because I got all the water that was in their tank and maybe there really isn't anymore in there.

I've got one in my Skeeter....works great....cost about $75 to install...and about $25 for the filter....just an extra insurance policy for me.....
