I've been a boat captain for Kaufman High School for several years now. They do require you to carry a minimum #300,000 in insurance and they do check it with the boat checks. All life jackets, working running lights, kill switch, etc is checked and verified at the boat checks. It's been worth volunteering for me. These kids will do anything to help you help them. I always get offered gas money, but usually refuse it.

Does the required liability insurance cover the captain? Has anyone talked to a boat insurance agent to see what liability the captain could be exposed to? A signed waiver may not mean much.

If you have a boating accident and a kid is injured or worse you can almost be guaranteed there will be some type of litigation these days...

The kids are also covered under the SAF insurance policy for all events on and off the water.
