TPWD has to referring to the Colorado River, not Colorado City Lake.

I'm gonna call TPWD and clear this up. It would be stupid to waste money stocking a lake that is not viable due to abnormal conditions when many other lakes are missing their yearly stock. Some even got taken off the stocking list.

I'm not trying to sell Tawakoni but they also got a stocking of hybrids this year. The sand bass and striper action has been nothing short of excellent this year. I know you are looking for a road trip adventure but from what all I've read this year Tawakoni is one of the hottest lakes going right now for stripers.

I try calling all the numbers in the regional offices in Austin and all I got is a voice greeting from a bunch of ladies. Left them a message on my question to clarify which part of the colorado river or lakes did they stock them hybrids. No response. I'm very upset. For some odd reason I'm more interested on an adventures to a lake or a river where it hasn't been impacted by high volume of traffic or tuck away somewhere still undiscover by the majority of the public. I found a few lakes with just that condition last year and all I can say at least for now its awesome to know such a lake and has the option to retreat to it when the fishing is Hot!!

I sent the stocking question to a Texas Fisheries Biologist I have been working with regarding future Somerville hybrid stockings. See her reply below:

I looked up the stocking "trip sheet." On May 4, 2015, 1,989,030 fry were sent to Wray Hatchery in Colorado. We trade fish with other state sometimes, especially if they can get us fish we don't raise here...like walleye. I worked for Colorado Division of Wildlife after undergrad - now CO Parks and Wildlife, and heard about the trade-outs from them too. According to my boss up there, the main trade-out is our "wipers" for their walleye.

Hybrid striper fingerlings are typically split pretty evenly between the East and West Texas regions. Since a lot of the West Texas reservoirs were low on water during 2015, it makes sense that we would send some of the surplus to our friends at CPW. Fry are also cheaper to make than fingerlings, and sending fry to our partnering states helps maintain relationships as well as clear up hatchery room to grow the fish out that we keep for ourselves. It's a win-win and no fish go to waste.

Hope this helps out!

Thanks cva34 smile Good to hear from ya!! He's my co pilot now. I've taught him how to drive the boat so when I need the boat to steer straight while I let out lines he sure comes in handy. Also taught him how to kill the engine just incase I go over board without the kill switch attach. I really do feel safer with him around.

So Todd Engling Chief of TPWD hatchery return my message today and double confirmed what Big D had said. Those fry were sent to the state of Colorado.
