My wife and I are planning a fishing trip for next weekend. What's the best/easiest lake to fish within about 2-2.5hrs of DFW? Don't really want to fish Fork because of the tournament going on that weekend. Also will be fishing in a 17ft tracker with very basic electronics so prefer a lake with a good shallow bite, maybe with lots of grass or pads. Thanks!

Also looking at cedar creek because of really nice lodging options. Any opinions on Cedar Creek?

Cedar Creek can get real nasty in a hurry, something you might not want to fish in a smaller boat if you decide to make a long run.
My vote goes to Cypress. Small lake, not hard to fish in the wind and has a ton of kentucks in it so that you can always get bit. Several places to stay that are decent as well.

What do you mean by nasty? Looking at getting a house with a boat dock so my wife can go back easily if she gets sick of being out.

He means wave action when he says nasty. Bigger lake usually means bigger waves especially if its north-south oriented like cedar creek. If you want a for sure I would definitely go with the lakes mentioned above - athens and cypress were two very good suggestions and hold a lot of fish
