Caught a big Old Dam fish today while crappie fishing.
I was crappie fishing the rocky bottom at the Old Dam this morning
And caught this big ole flathead. That qualifies as a big Old dam fish.
Darn thing bent my net. Guess the net was not meant for a big Old Dam fish.
I was fishing near Ernest in his pontoon and another fellow fisherman in another boat (a Lund) named Steve C. Steve took my picture so I would have something to brag about. Thanks Steve.
Flathead went 18 pounds. The 8 pound test Ande line held up real good along with my pro angler rod
Also caught some nice crappie from several different places.
All fish were caught at spots with rocky bottom. Fished a few trees but all the keepers came from spots with a rocky bottom. Kept 9.
A lot of short fish and a lot of 10.25 inchers that I threw back. Also a bunch of large mouths.
The following are some from Wed. morning.
All fish caught on 1/8 ounce or 1/4 ounce jig heads with crazy angler jigs of various colors just off the bottom
6 - 15 fow. Plus all fish caught off of areas with rocky bottoms, slow retrieve and vertical jigging both methods produced fish.
Interesting the biggest was a white crappie 15 inches long. Two of the black crappie were 14 inches. The 15 inch white crappie and the 14 inch black crappie weighed the same. Those black crappie are thick.
Yep - the white crappie was a full inch longer than the black crappie but they weighed the same!
