I mainly fish Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado but now my brother is into fly fishing, driving 5 hours to Lubbock and then another 9 up to the Rockies is a little tough for a weekend. I would normally suggest LMF but I think they are still rebuilding.
If you were in my shoes where would you go for a long weekend trout trip? We would be leaving from Plano.

Is he here too or in Lubbock? If you don't want to hit lmf try Arkansas on the little red, white or norkork all will be fishing good in the fall.

Another option could be the Guadalupe down by Greune
"have fun with this stuff" in memory of Big Dale RRhyne56, Flyfishing warden

Yep good one there too and little closer. Traffic and trip not as pretty but they put in Browns last year and good size ones at that my buddy sent several pics of really nice Browns last year. They are going to stock them again this year. If you do pic the guad make sure and pack clousers and cray patterns for stripers and smallmouth. Caught some really good striper and smallmouth last year. It's a trophy fishery as far as Texas is concerned on the smallies.

How far is the drive to the white river? I want LMF but the dozers have me worried about the fishery. I'm going to call beavers bend and see what going on. I'll report if I find out something.

Skip LMF for now..... from Plano the white river/norfork/taneycomo is less than 7 hours away. Big Browns, stocker rainbows, and smallies if you have the desire.
Conejos valley in SoCo is about 5.5-6.5 hours from Lubbock.
I just made a trip to the Conejos from DFW in 10.5 hours. Still not a weekend gig though.

I am probably a little crazier than most on here I made a suicide run to Fish seven hours on the Taneycomo from Fort Worth one time a couple of years ago. I was headed that direction for a week in a few days but Fishing got really hot. I just could not take it and headed out it was worth every bit of the drive for my half day of fishing Lol.

I have always wanted to do this one, but I have never heard of anyone doing any good on it. Has anyone heard of La Junta camp ground at the confluence of the Rio Grande and the Red River in New Mexico? I walked down La Junta 3 years ago and saw the river during the summer and it looked like chocolate milk so we took off down the red but didn't make it too far. We fished some excellent looking pools but never caught anything.
BTW walking back up La Junta is a B&^%$
I would have to drag by brother from Plano and depart from Lubbock.

Just fish the Rio at Lajunta Monday, water was awesome, although that changes from day to day. Over 40 browns caught between myself and some friends. Fish deep and when you think your deep go deeper! High stick with your indicator out of water around larger rocks. Caddis emergers!

Conejos is hard to beat, especially in the fall...
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Looking up and looking down. Really very easy trail just if you need wadders pack them down don't wear or you will cook. Too many people want to get out of their car and fall into the river. That is a fantastic spot most of the people I have ever seen are only hiking down in to see it and are scenic hikers. Fall Browns move in great place take a Steele leader and big streamers for northern pike as well.

Not sure why they put the pike in there but they are doing well.
