Was thinking about a trip after Labor Day Weekend down to Choke. Is it a waist of time or should I wet a hook somewhere else? Anybody got any suggestions?

I haven't been on choke in a long time, but from what I heard it's not fishing too good. I know you'll have a good time on falcon.

Lol, come on guys, none of you have even been to Choke in the last few years. I haven't been since May and it was decent back then. How are we supposed to get a fishing report if nobody goes there? popcorn

I fished Choke about a month ago and had a great day. I caught approximately 40 fish all between 3 and 4 pounds, although 30 came from 1 small hump and the other 10 or so from a bend in the river channel down by the dam. I fished 1 other spot all day so didnt scope out much of the lake.
I sent my uncle the coordinates and he went out and caught 30 or so on the hump, all between 3-4 pounds and then said he went and fished some shallow hydrilla and caught a 5 and one pushing 7 real late in the evening.

Some of the other guys I have chatted with had some real good luck flipping hard woods in the middle of July. They went twice and had over 20 pounds both times and said they caught a lot of fish. I was sent a picture from a guy that caught a 10 even on a flutter spoon the 2nd week of August.

I will add that I could not get bit on a crankbait, a c-rig, slow rolling big spinnerbaits, flutter spoon, or a texas rig (all of my usual go to's especially the DD22). I was catching fish on nearly every 2 or 3 casts and would pick up one those baits and make a dozen casts with out a bite. Pick up the giant shakey head and 12" worm and first cast back onto the hump and they would crush it.

Moved back to Texas as Choke was going downhill so I didn't experience the "on fire" Choke. However, I have been there a couple times recently including last week. I fished what I think is called Three Fingers and I have caught fish on swimbaits and spinnerbaits but mostly small keepers with a couple of 3 lbers mixed in. The hydrilla is growing thick in areas but I haven't caught any fish in it. However, I agree that if you have the time go the extra distance and hit Falcon specially if the wind down there is in your favor.

ShawnT, do you mind if I ask... What's the deepest depth you've caught bass on Choke? I've tried deep and I never catch anything. It seems like if I'm over 15(ish)ft then I can't catch a fish. Glad to hear that it's getting better though! bannana2

I grew up fishing choke and have a lot of hours out there. I don't ever fish shallower than 12 except for in the fall and spawn. I fish offshore on ledges, points, and humps 90% of the time and they are anywhere from 12-30 ft. I have caught some in 40' along the river channel but nothing any good.

thumb I knew that dirty water was fooling me, I guess I've never found the good spots offshore. I remember reading an article about Charles Whited catching fish out of the trees in 40' and I thought "how in the world is that possible".

I have been going down there when I can peel myself away from Medina, I was there Labor Day weekend and calihans to mid lake was dirty, I threw spinner baits and Square bill shallow with just a few swimmers, I did not go to any of the other stuff I found off shore as I am leaving it alone but I am sure there are others on it but I have been just doing a lot of looking. My biggest since I have been going back is a 6, I have had A few more that may have been a tad bigger but did not get them in. It is hit or miss, if you are fishing shallow cover water, if you are fishing deep, they will be there in numbers or it will be bare. You can flip until you are flipped out and you got to cover water. There is also some fish in the flooded salt cedars, you just have to find some close to deep water. I will be there this Saturday and every weekend until October 1st

The part that has water. Sorry, that was too easy.

Just about everyplace I went to had hydrilla, from Calliham boat launch to 4 fingers. I didn't traverse the entire lake though.

I will be moving back to Texas next month. I will be living in Pleasanton, I think. I grew up on Amistad and am looking forward to learning Choke and Falcon! From the things I am reading on Choke, it might be on a slight up-tick which is exciting.. Grout-Scout, I will probably be bothering you in month or so about Choke, not looking for your spots, just about getting around the place, Ive never been there.
