I bought a brand new boat and it came with a brand new Mercury Pro XS 250. I have 4 hrs on the engine and I've already had to replace both thermostats and now I have a major oil leak that appears to becoming from the power head. Mechanic will provide final diagnoses this afternoon.

My question is should I go back to Mercury or dealership and ask for a new motor. Has anyone had an issue like this or had to request a new motor to replace a lemon? Any suggestions are appreciated as I'm beyond frustrated.

Temp alarm went off and they found the thermostats stuck.

Oil reservoir had no signs of oil on it and we pulled the kill switch and cranked it and didn't have any oil come out of the reservoir (on engine) cap or leak from line below.

I'll update the thread once I hear from Mechanic again. But does anyone know how much has to go wrong before Mercury will replace the engine? It's getting out of hand for a new engine.
I'm also waiting on a call back from Sales manager at dealership.

A lot more than what you are describing. Usually when the thermostats are stuck they have debris in them and can be easily cleaned and reinstalled. The oil leak could be anywhere, including lines, oil pump etc.

Contact Mercury and keep them in the loop on the problems you are having. One more problem and I would ask for a replacement, depending on the outcome of this oil leak. I know they are going to say "its under warranty", we'll fix it. And, I run the carp out of mine too!!

I am having a problem with a 2016 Pro xs 250. I am not getting enough water pressure. 9 psi at wide open throttle.

Bruce are you sure it's only getting 9 psi? Water pressure gauges are notorious for readings being off. Do you have a Mercury Smartcraft gauge on it? If so it has a water pressure reading in it also.

TXbazzn I highly doubt you can get a new motor that easily. It's possible but not likely. Is the dealer you are doing business with have a Mercury Certified tech? a problem on the new motors is picking up trash in the water system. My 2014 250 ProXS has done it 3 times now. Thermostats are easily removed and cleaned out which is where most temp problems occur. If it is having a problem getting to temp then it's most likely a trash in thermostat problem. There is a plug below the top cowl inside that needs to be cleaned out also if it gets a lot of trash in it. The oil problem may be a leaking oil pump or a line loose. Give a good mechanic a try at fixing it and you will probably be happy with the outcome.

It reads 9 psi on the smart craft gauge and Manuel gauge.

So i found my problem. I had it ready to take to the shop when i noticed the wiring going from under the cowling to the trim motor and thought Why would they bend the wiring in half like that. So i cut open the enclosure and found the water pressure tube bent in half. when you raise the jack plate it closed it all the way off. Problem solved with turning the clamps around.

I had a mud dobber problem with mine, it happened twice and I finally out smarted it. The little devil would go up the P hole with all of its belongings and plug my line. I plug the P hole with a rolled up piece of paper.

Yeah, I have it a Mercury Premier Mechanic. The thermostats were replaced and honestly that doesn't concern me as much. (Although they were determined to be faulty, not from a clog). But if the oil leak is determined to be originating from somewhere in the power head then that's when I'm going to ask for a new engine.
When you pay that much for a brand new motor and it comes with issues and one that seems potentially major; it's tough to stomach.

It's 3 weeks old and less than 5 hrs on it.

I've been in touch with the the dealer and it sounds like if the oil leak is what is suspected then they'll make it right.

Isn't this Warranty work if it's NEW?
