16-24 works well especially with the past cpl of spawns being good to great, before that seems it had been 4-5 yrs of bad spawns. you don't want to start taking out all the 16-18" fish now that will grow that length in the next cpl of years. fear this is mostly for people who tournament fish and want to start keeping the 16"+ fish we all caught theres plenty of other lakes around texas to have great turnouts for tournys with no slot.
lets keep this lake the trophy lake that it is.just wait till you see the SAL's caught in 2022 and later. it will happen but it won't when they raise the lower end to 18" and people start keeping them 16-18" fish...

16-21 for Fork and Rayburn. Lots of Big Bass tournaments on both lakes and both need the revenue. Lol they both are the most tournament heavy lakes in the country they are good on revenue. Would hurt Rayburn's tournament scene I think Toledo bend is a prime example that slots are not guaranteed to produce bigger bass or more bass.

We can "kick it around" all we want, but I would be willing to bet it won't be on the slate to change anytime soon.

Just for fun lets consider making a revision for sanctioned tournaments. If your tourney meets said requirements (fish tank with certified fish handler, participants take a online course on fish care and handling and all fish returned back to the lake etc.) that all fish can be weighed in. How many times have you gone out and caught a great sack of slot fish only to weigh in 8lbs. In my opinion the slot really removes a lot of opportunities for a great turn out on a very popular fishery.

That will never happen Kevlee. TTBC tried to get an exemption the first year but TPWD wasn't having any of it. Hence the weigh and release immediately format was born. And I really like that format. But it's labor intensive and requires a Marshall in every boat.

Ray Roberts went straight in the dumper as a recreational bass fishery when they removed the slot. Agreed.

I took biology in High School,so I say leave the slot where it is. I just wish they would go to one slot for all lakes or do away with it. I would like to see a 16 to 21 slot or even as James said a 18 min. Slots benefit certain fisheries in various ways. They're not a one size fits all nor a be all end all. I think the upper end of the slot should remain at 24" and the lower end should be raised to 18" on Fork. Been saying this same thing for years, but I'm no stinking biologist so what do I know.

I hate to say, but Texas Parks doesn't really care if you catch a double digit fish that you can't weigh in because it's 23.75 inches long. They manage lakes and place limits to better a fishery. I personally HATE fishing tournaments on that lake because you can have a 30 lb. stringer that is all in the slot, so you end up weighing nothing. Tournaments on that lake are not a true reflection of an anglers ability. Do I wish it would change? YES! I'd win some money every now and again if it would, but it won't. I could get into the biology behind why the limits are what they are, but I'd have to type too much. Talk to tournament directors and see if MLF catch and release weigh ins would be acceptable for the tournaments you fish on those lakes. For now it's the only way around it. Sad part is, the world is full of dishonest cheaters, so most organizations won't adopt that format.

I have faith that the TPWD biologists know exactly what they are doing... for non tournament fishing Fork is one of the most enjoyable lakes to fish in the entire state IMO. Why jack with a good thing just to make tournament bags bigger?

Ray Roberts went straight in the dumper as a recreational bass fishery when they removed the slot. Yes it did and it was even better with just a straight 18" MLL.
See you on the lake and have a great day!
