Four of us are booked on a wade and bay trip in the POC area in a few weeks. Our outfitter informed me this week they are no longer providing or renting rods/reels for wade fishing. I'm the only serious fisherman out of our group and the best I can muster is 5 inshore-capable combos, two of which are baitcasters that the other 3 members of the party can't operate. Ideally I'd like everyone to have two setups - one for live bait and another for artificials - but I'm on the fence about asking anyone to pony up for new tackle they might not use much after this.
That being said, can our group get by with one rod/reel each or should we just get a few more cheap combos to fill out the roster? I'm thinking Shimano Siennas and Ugly Stiks.

7-71/2 ml or l spinning rod with a 2500 series reel spooled with 20# braid will do everything you want.

WOW,
I have never heard of this before. They are fine tuning their clientele. Good for them if they can get away with it.

I forgot to answer your question. There have only been a couple of trips in my life where I had an equipment failure that could have kept me from fishing if I didnt have a backup. That said one backup should be sufficient for the group so make it something everyone can use.

I had a clients 8 YO son catch a 32" red on his Snoopy pole, so cheap rod n' reels can still catch fish.
Looks like ya got the right idea - good luck !!!

I have a few other freshwater 2500 reels lying around - mainly Okumas. I wouldn't have much problem doling them out if we were on the boat 100% of the time, but wading makes me anxious they'll be ruined after a dunking. Should I be?

Not at all. Give them a good rinse and lube they'll be fine. Okumas are holding up really good for me.
