Hi everyone. I just moved to Dallas from OKC for work and fishing. The fishing rules here are confusing. Since I don't have a car, I plan on using the DART to get me up to White Rock Lake soon. If I fish from the bank, do I need a license? Thanks.

You will need a valid fishing license for any fishing in Texas unless its a private lake or a "community" lake (the definition of which is in the TP&W guide). Dang, this post just reminded me that I need to buy a new license.

Axlo yes you do need license at w/r . just a week ago i got checked by the DPD bike cop out there ... the odds are slim anyone will check you but there is a slim chance to be checked . the fine is not worth it imo

You are correct sir; you are also exempt in a boat or wading while in a water body contained entirely within a state park (not a river flowing through it, but a lake or pond entirely inside the park's boundaries).

You need a license if in a boat at State Park. Went thru this with neighbor, so called and was told if standing on property, no license, in boat need license. Park don't own lake, corp does.

The Corp does not own all lakes that has a State Park, take Tyler State park lake as an example.

If I understand it correctly one would not need a license to fish Tyler State Park lake from the bank nor from a boat.

Fishing in State Parks
•A fishing license and endorsement are not required if fishing on State Park property or in waters completely enclosed by a State Park.
•On man-made structures (docks, piers, jetties, etc.) within state parks, fishing is by pole-and-line only, with each person limited to two poles. All other fishing regulations, such as length and bag limits, remain in effect.
•Bow fishing is not allowed on state park property.

I was told that a valid, OK fishing license is good in TX. Any truth to this?

Which State Park did this occur in? I wasn't aware that the USACOE owned any lakes inside State Parks.

What difference does it make. That's not the topic of this thread.

A valid OK or LA license is good in Texas IF you are over 65 years of age.. All others need a Texas license..

No, not until someone replied that the USACOE owns the lake(s) in (some or a) State Park(s), and a license is required in a boat in a SP lake. Just trying to make sure nobody leaves with some misinformation, as so often occurs when legal advice is sought on the interweb......... You know, kind of a Public Service sorta thing............

Lighten up........

According to this and several other sites, if your over 65, and from OK, you don't need a license to fish in TX. It wasn't clear if you needed an OK license.

Double check. I believe you still have to go get a license but free or greatly reduced rate.

Lake Texoma License
(Type 208):$12
With this license, which is valid until December 31 following the date of issuance, a person may fish in both the Texas and Oklahoma waters of Lake Texoma without any additional Texas or Oklahoma fishing licenses, endorsements or stamps. A Texas resident 65 years of age or older does not need this license to fish in the Oklahoma portion of Lake Texoma. A Lake Texoma license is valid ONLY on Lake Texoma

Yes, you need a license. Confusing? The big difference in Texas to Oklahoma is our licenses are based around the start of Dove Season on Sept. 1 to Aug. 31. Oklahoma fishing and hunting license are based from Jan. 1 to Dec 31. In Oklahoma you can kill a deer in Jan. on a license and use the same license the next season in the Fall. Now, that is confusing.

I can respond to the reverse of this, and believe it is true in Texas also. In OK if over 65 a Texas resident needs only a valid ID. I verified this several times with OK authorities before fishing there.

You will need a fishing license, and make sure while riding DART, your gear is on or near the seat up against the windows. Thiefs, pros, know each stop, and grab stuff, usually cell phones, from other riders and jump off the train exits fast, knowing no person can or will try to catch them. A man with some gear, a tackle box, whatever, can be easy pickings.

Addendum: I admit I've never seen anyone on a DART train with fishing gear, but it would be interesting.

Addendum II: I ride the train to and from Dallas Stars games, that is all.
