I have a 24 series deep cycle for my TM on my small boat. I want to increase my reserve minutes
by adding a second battery in line( neg to neg, pos to pos).

Can I use a 27 or 29 series or does the battery have to be a 24 series like the original.

On a trolling motor use any 12 volt battery you want. Bigger is better.

Adding any deep cycle to it will work, but you will get better charging and performance with batteries of the same size and age.

I ditched my 24 series, and instead of running two batteries just run one 31 series. I can run all day on mine and still have power to spare. Its on a Minn Kota 55 and I'm on the peddle all day covering a lot of water.

If you have that Triton 186 I would buy a battery and save up for a 24 volt trolling motor. The other thing that might make you take notice is to buy one with pulsing DC if you don't already have one. The difference is dramatic on the savings in battery life. Two 24's would be plenty for a boat your size.
