What is an affordable reel that could be used for tuna, etc when fishing offshore? I got a couple roller guide rods and just need reels.

Whats your budget for "affordable"?
You could go with a Penn Senator for under $200. Or get a good 2 speed lever drag Shimano for $350 or so

for gulf tunas, I would say shimano torium 30 for conventional or Shimano Saragosa 14000 in a spinner. roller rods are kinda overkill unless you're trolling. if so, I'd say move up to an Avet pro/30-w, or a Penn Int'l/Shimano tiagra 30w Best approach is 3 rods, 1 of each above, & you're set tuna fishing & affordable are not synonymous, get used to that from the beginning. tackle-wise, it's a commitment. buy right the first time, & you'll have gear to last the rest of your life

What is an affordable reel that could be used for tuna, etc when fishing offshore? I got a couple roller guide rods and just need reels. Good info from the folks. What is the line ratings for the rods, and length? Just adding this, got a Shimano TLD 20, bit old but solid w/upgraded drag, with 80 lb JB hollow core braid looking to sell. The line is probably worth as much as the reel, but that reel had caught more Blackfin tuna, AJ's, king's, snpper, etc than should be allowed by law. If you're targeting YFT, your reel should be beefier than the 20, as well if your rods are above 50 lb class you need to look for the class reels suggested, not the 20. If the 20 fits the criteria and interested, email me and we can talk. too@outdoorstexas.com
